Meditation and COVID

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused widespread illness and death globally. While vaccines have been the main focus for pandemic control, other approaches like meditation, known to enhance immunity, have been less explored.

A recent study investigated the connection between meditation and COVID-19, testing how meditation affects the body's response to viral infection. The researchers found that people who practiced meditation regularly had a lower risk of SARS-CoV-2 infection and experienced quicker recovery if infected. In laboratory tests, blood from experienced meditators prevented the entry of virus particles into lung cells.

One specific protein called SERPINA5 was identified in meditators' blood, which seemed to limit virus entry. Overall, the study suggests that meditation might enhance the body's ability to fight viral infections like COVID-19 and could be a useful additional therapy in managing the pandemic.
